Have you ever in your life felt as though you were all alone? Even in a room full of people, you can feel alone. Do you know that even when you’re around people who love and care about you, there can still be times when you feel completely isolated?
Sometimes the enemy wants you to feel like you don’t have anyone in your corner. He will try to get you in a place where you feel like you it’s just, “me, myself, and I.” Well here are four verses that prove that’s a lie! God will never leave you alone.
1. Psalm 63:6-7
“I lie awake at night thinking of you— of how much you have helped me—and how I rejoice through the night beneath the protecting shadow of your wings. I follow close behind you, protected by your strong right arm.”
King David definitely knew a thing or two about being lonely. When he penned this verse, he was on the run, hiding from King Saul.
Long story short: some time after God anointed David as a young boy, King Saul summoned David to his palace. He was having nightmares, and had heard that David was a talented harp player, which would help ease his troubled mind. David then became Saul’s harpist, assistant, and personal bodyguard. (1 Samuel 16: 13-22). But after David famously slayed Goliath and was praised by the entire kingdom, Saul grew extremely jealous to the point that he wanted to kill David, so David had no other choice but to flee.
David was not close to his father or brothers, and his only friend was Jonathan, King Saul’s son, who warned him of his father’s rage. But even that was not enough to comfort David, who had no one who could really stand by him or sympathize with what he was going through. David longed to be able to go to church and be in the presence of God, but he couldn’t. Yet he did not waver. He didn’t let what was going on with Saul cause Him to lose faith in God. Instead, he took refuge in the Father, knowing that God’s protection was with Him and that he did not have to fear.
No matter what state you find yourself in at any point in your life, know that God is with you. He feels every emotion that you endure, and will guide you through all of life’s challenges. Don’t allow the enemy to cause you to feel as though God has left you to deal with pain, fear, difficulty, tests, or trials on your own. God is holding you up and He will not let you fall or fail.
2. Proverbs 18:24
“There are ‘friends’ who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Sometimes lonely feelings come from being rejected or betrayed by people you thought had your back and would always be on your side. When a person turns on you, it can definitely cause you to become bitter and resentful, but you can take heart in Proverbs 18:24.
Just think: while we were yet sinners, God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Now that’s a friend. His kind of love is unconditional and unfailing; it prevails even when we take it for granted. We don’t have to ever worry or wonder about God’s loyalty. He always has your best interest at the forefront of every move He guides you to make, and unlike man, you can always count on Him to stand for you.
3. Isaiah 43:1-3
“But now the Lord who created you, O Israel, says: Don’t be afraid, for I have ransomed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up—the flames will not consume you.”
The Bible records the long history of Israel, God’s Chosen People, all throughout the Old Testament. They turned from God repeatedly, yet His love always covered their sins and brought them back to Him. The same God who could see past all of their disobedience and disregard for His commands is the same God who you serve.
The devil wants you to feel like you don’t have any support. He wants you to feel unloved, unappreciated, and uncared for because when you do, He will cause you to go out into the world and search for fulfillment in things that aren’t of God, like bad relationships, sex, drugs, alcohol, and making poor decisions. He will try to get you to destroy yourself from the inside out.
There were times when Israel allowed Satan to make them think that God had forsaken them although He had proven Himself strong in their lives time and time again. Don’t be fooled by Satan’s tricks. You serve a proven God! His love is everlasting and His promises are sure, even when it doesn’t look like it. He is always with you.
4. Psalm 91: 14-15
“For the Lord says, ‘Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will make him great because he trusts in my name. When he calls on me, I will answer; I will be with him in trouble and rescue him and honor him.'”
God was referring to a righteous person. God’s not going to leave you hanging. When you feel alone, He wants you to call on Him. He doesn’t want you to try and fight your battles in your own strength because you will lose every time! But with God on your side, you can and will conquer anything that happens in your life.
God wants us to have confidence in His Word, and these verses show us plainly that no, we are not alone. You may not have a big family, a thousand friends, popularity, or fame, but having God on the inside of you is worth so much more than all of that combined.
So whenever loneliness tries to knock on your door, recognize it and rebuke it because it is nothing but a lie and a trick from the enemy to cause you to be destroyed. God has not left you to fend for yourself. He is your help. He is with you.
You are not alone!
